Bound in Blood . Preview Art2

The next stop, side character introductions. There were only a few side characters used for the story, besides the faceless random citizens.

This guy, well he doesn't really show up much in the first issue
but soon you'll see him being everywhere in Dave's life.
Chief Pat Wilson. I based him on the first image
of an elderly "healthy" man with a 'stache.
That's right, it's written on the top "Stephen Colbert 101"
cause Tom Swanson, the reporter, was fairly based to Stephen Colbert.
Tom Swanson, paired up with a camera man!
You'll never really see how he looks like, but just in case, put a face.
Why not!
Lastly, news anchor John Reynolds.
Originally, I tried to look for the original one, but it seems like he really doesn't exist.
Searching for a good fit reference for characters that wouldn't even have that long exposure and presence in a story sometimes takes time, specially if you're going for a semi-realism feel and style for majority of the art. I personally enjoyed looking for a good Stephen Colbert reference since I'm a fan, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy making for the others.

Bearing in mind about all the elements you need to keep when it comes to designing a character, the aesthetic of their facial personality and how you see them stating and expressing their dialogues is a necessary thing. If you can't imagine them being what they should be in the story sometimes feels mechanical. Something I learned almost in the middle of this progress.

Bound in Blood . Preview Art1

Good day! In celebration for the release of Bound in Blood's (facebook) kickstarter here are some raw artworks posted online by the artist, yours truly!

Preview of the two important characters in Dave Ugarte's life.
You'll have to read the comics to figure which of the two is his romance and rock.

So far the basis for the three characters are really diverse, Allison was originally based from a different actress but not someone that looks like Jennifer Lawrence. Although the feel could have passed as Kate Beckinsale or the likes. Having her look soft and pleasing to the eyes was the ultimate aim in contrast to Claire who is peppy and quite the character with a robust personality.

It was also a challenge for me to produce a specific look for Dave since the first chapter had little personality to show for him but only to his loyalty to the justice, and his loved ones, after the events of his past. So I depicted him somewhat borderline with an unsure expression but stern, that would soon be covered by a beard later on in the story.

Conversing with creator Patrick Goforth about the fruition of the characters was quite a thrill, specially crossing the lines of the character descriptions to pencil and paper.

Komikon 2015 . update . final stages

For the record, it's one of my moments that I feel hyped, but fearful, when I'm going to do something for the first time, again.

This year I'm going to participate in so many events related to making comics, like contests, and client search for comics and such. It's kind of new to me that instead of just indulging myself in making my own comics, I'm taking in clients and stuff and making comics for them. No doubt that it's one of the few jobs I want to gain experience, plus book formatting after enjoying my days in learning it.

Anyway update on my stories, I'm releasing two new prints. A re-print version of "Fish Princess", in high definition colour (just a coloured version actually), done by the ever wonderful Briks Benigno! (she is one of the best artist I've seen when it comes to mixing colours back in college, yes we've been comrads since 2005-06).

And the other title "Llama sa Umaga" (tentatively titled in english as "Llamas Breakfast"), which is a comics about thinking positive in life OR the bliss of being ignorant.

To explain, Komikon is the tagalized version of the ever popular Comicon. This event is one of the only best things in my life, so far, besides food. Being able to attend it as a participant, instead of a regular comer only, is a life changer for me. Since I used to be only a regular comer back in it's first stages :)

My plan is to release it in print first before submitting the online version in my devaintArt or Smackjeeves. Not one of the wisest things to do but I want to test the waters locally first. Compared to other who explore their online potential, mind you I'm not that confident about any of the whatever choices potential.

That is what I need to over come.

comics 101 . doodling . slow-mo

Currently, before I proceed in working the new page for the comics project I'm currently in, I've decided to make doodle art of the characters. Since I noticed how I lack in illustrating them, which I should prolly be doing instead of overly idling around.

So for today, the discussion about my regret towards drawing in a not so fast pace. I've had this type of problem ever since I can remember. A paranoia that I can't take away from me, that in itself is my weakest point in being an artist. I can't make artworks that fast, so I go blunt with my clients that I take this number of days to accomplish something.

I have that low of a practice in such things. But I'm motivated and always trying to positively push myself and well if I can't really do it I just take a pause. And enjoy life. Because no matter what I do I will always be worried, because the solution to my worry is something that needs dedication and patience. LOL

Game vlog . comics 101

I got to say that somehow I cannot believe how the world wide web is practically the most unexplored thing I want to explore since my childhood. When I was a kid I used to get into surfing alot of things online, but since I've grown I can't think of searching for anything online. Thinking of any significant interest for me these days just feel tiresome.

So now I'm just enjoying myself by watching Game Vlogs made by Pewdiepie, currently I'm watching his South Park: Stick of Truth Game Vlog in Marathon. Entertaining and less hassle on my part, albeit wishing I could find a game I want to play. I mean I like playing games but nowadays I feel really lacking on that patient motivation to just search for that game I want to play.

Pewdiepie and Cutiepie
(yes, it has to be a couple pic because I like Marzia!!!)

In any case I'd rather complete a new page for the comics project we're currently working on and I'm beginning to think that large breasts are annoying as hell to draw when it comes to perspectives. Theres always a moment of patient practice!

sure confused . comics 101 . Tales of the Abyss anime

Finally had the chance to watch one of the anime series version of a popular game franchise "Tales of...". Tales of the Abyss was the 8th from the series, released 2005 (almost ten years ago!). I honestly just like the series because I played Tales of Phantasia (the very first in the series), then I started supporting it because most of the titles does have good story plots. Plus its the type of adventure PRG that doesn't rely much on dating simulation and the romance isn't that obvious. Or i'm just a sucker for a fixed romance between two entities, just two, whatever the gender. It was a fun watch, in its own way quite good.

Sometimes a huge distraction is what makes me a complete human being when I do my work, however its just a large bumping of a proof that i'm not well focused when it comes to things. As far as work goes, right now i've been busy with the fourth page of a project i've been busy with, and its a wee bit delayed. Compared to the other things delayed in my past existence.

there should've been tears right there

And as of now, I have well trodden on something emotional, an emotion so great my hunger actually surpasses it.

Must go back to work then.

MWAM . Comic project 101 . PhilStuff

Recently been getting myself addicted with songs from a j.rock band Man with A Mission. Starting off with their song "Seven Deadly Sins" for Nanatsu No Taizai anime (which I recommend, read the manga and be swept with alot of fantasy adventure awesomeness > < from artist S.Nakaba). I'm engrossing myself as well with their other song, released for Hentai Kamen (have not tried this one...and prolly will not for another few years, until i get out of my system that something that makes me not enjoy reading this type of manga or seeing this anime), entitled "Emotions".

It helps when you have something to repeat to your ears while making awesome artworks, although I couldn't call mine awesome for various major reasons. So far, the current progress for the comics I'm making falls under slow due to motivational issues.

roses, the only rose i can think of was left on a different dimension
far away from the tenth doctor

And lastly, randomly posting an image that can sail a thousand opinions in the land of the butthurt (yes i love calling our selves butthurt, but no i'm not proud of it, the name calling i mean. hehehe).

says in the original text of the person who posted it:
My new pet dog.
My kid is crazy, he's gullible...
I'm laughing out loud here.

I'm guessing, this is originally a private image shared by the person who took it. Eventually someone had the audacity and sense of shaming justice to spread the good humour towards the public and get their active sense of justice emotion.

Don't get me wrong, I did not like it either. The way she treated the child. Thats the number one thats whats wrong here, and the fact that she had the gal to spread the good humour to those she deems as acquaintances with the same humour.

However, since I could not control whatever comes out of anyones butt holes, here it is being currently investigated upon.

I hope everything gets a clear light of who should learn a lesson here, and not get any more blown up, as I known it often happens in media. A cautionary tale per se, an amusing play of psychological and mental drama for mankind.

Not a bad run down on what runs in whoever's mind or what kind of mental flow to the person who posted this publicly and privately.

job resigned . comics project 101 . not really bumming

Recently, more like more than two weeks now, I've resolved to dedicate myself in focusing on my freelance projects (alot of graphic or illustration ones). It's a huge thing for me, owing to the fact that I couldn't remove even my side thats too lazy yet, nor even have that large motivation to move out. However, it's not something that concerns me greatly, yet.

watching Frozen while working, yeah FROZEN
I'm still not used in focusing well in the confines of my home, usually it just gives all the reason to delay everything I intend to do, regarding my freelance jobs of course. But now, I have all the confidence to man up and just have fun while working, thought I'd say something inspirational and bull but I'm not in the mood for it.

Thinking back (regarding the movie) Elsa really IS a relatable character...for majority of the friends that I know. Annas' just the natural dear day dreamer. Funny.

.end transmission.
