Bound in Blood . Preview Art2

The next stop, side character introductions. There were only a few side characters used for the story, besides the faceless random citizens.

This guy, well he doesn't really show up much in the first issue
but soon you'll see him being everywhere in Dave's life.
Chief Pat Wilson. I based him on the first image
of an elderly "healthy" man with a 'stache.
That's right, it's written on the top "Stephen Colbert 101"
cause Tom Swanson, the reporter, was fairly based to Stephen Colbert.
Tom Swanson, paired up with a camera man!
You'll never really see how he looks like, but just in case, put a face.
Why not!
Lastly, news anchor John Reynolds.
Originally, I tried to look for the original one, but it seems like he really doesn't exist.
Searching for a good fit reference for characters that wouldn't even have that long exposure and presence in a story sometimes takes time, specially if you're going for a semi-realism feel and style for majority of the art. I personally enjoyed looking for a good Stephen Colbert reference since I'm a fan, but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy making for the others.

Bearing in mind about all the elements you need to keep when it comes to designing a character, the aesthetic of their facial personality and how you see them stating and expressing their dialogues is a necessary thing. If you can't imagine them being what they should be in the story sometimes feels mechanical. Something I learned almost in the middle of this progress.

Bound in Blood . Preview Art1

Good day! In celebration for the release of Bound in Blood's (facebook) kickstarter here are some raw artworks posted online by the artist, yours truly!

Preview of the two important characters in Dave Ugarte's life.
You'll have to read the comics to figure which of the two is his romance and rock.

So far the basis for the three characters are really diverse, Allison was originally based from a different actress but not someone that looks like Jennifer Lawrence. Although the feel could have passed as Kate Beckinsale or the likes. Having her look soft and pleasing to the eyes was the ultimate aim in contrast to Claire who is peppy and quite the character with a robust personality.

It was also a challenge for me to produce a specific look for Dave since the first chapter had little personality to show for him but only to his loyalty to the justice, and his loved ones, after the events of his past. So I depicted him somewhat borderline with an unsure expression but stern, that would soon be covered by a beard later on in the story.

Conversing with creator Patrick Goforth about the fruition of the characters was quite a thrill, specially crossing the lines of the character descriptions to pencil and paper.

Komikon 2015 . update . final stages

For the record, it's one of my moments that I feel hyped, but fearful, when I'm going to do something for the first time, again.

This year I'm going to participate in so many events related to making comics, like contests, and client search for comics and such. It's kind of new to me that instead of just indulging myself in making my own comics, I'm taking in clients and stuff and making comics for them. No doubt that it's one of the few jobs I want to gain experience, plus book formatting after enjoying my days in learning it.

Anyway update on my stories, I'm releasing two new prints. A re-print version of "Fish Princess", in high definition colour (just a coloured version actually), done by the ever wonderful Briks Benigno! (she is one of the best artist I've seen when it comes to mixing colours back in college, yes we've been comrads since 2005-06).

And the other title "Llama sa Umaga" (tentatively titled in english as "Llamas Breakfast"), which is a comics about thinking positive in life OR the bliss of being ignorant.

To explain, Komikon is the tagalized version of the ever popular Comicon. This event is one of the only best things in my life, so far, besides food. Being able to attend it as a participant, instead of a regular comer only, is a life changer for me. Since I used to be only a regular comer back in it's first stages :)

My plan is to release it in print first before submitting the online version in my devaintArt or Smackjeeves. Not one of the wisest things to do but I want to test the waters locally first. Compared to other who explore their online potential, mind you I'm not that confident about any of the whatever choices potential.

That is what I need to over come.

comics 101 . doodling . slow-mo

Currently, before I proceed in working the new page for the comics project I'm currently in, I've decided to make doodle art of the characters. Since I noticed how I lack in illustrating them, which I should prolly be doing instead of overly idling around.

So for today, the discussion about my regret towards drawing in a not so fast pace. I've had this type of problem ever since I can remember. A paranoia that I can't take away from me, that in itself is my weakest point in being an artist. I can't make artworks that fast, so I go blunt with my clients that I take this number of days to accomplish something.

I have that low of a practice in such things. But I'm motivated and always trying to positively push myself and well if I can't really do it I just take a pause. And enjoy life. Because no matter what I do I will always be worried, because the solution to my worry is something that needs dedication and patience. LOL

comics 101 . KUNG FURY . Pellek

Struggling to finish one damn page isn't a hassle, unless you have the same complex I have. Procrastination. Might as well hold onto it because I like doing it and its fun. Right now, in the comics I'm doing, on the inking process is page 8. Finishing each inking with the style I have is pretty absurd, sometimes I think its just easy-peasy, and majority of the times I'm too fucking annoyed at how long it takes me that in the end I scold myself. Strongly advising to not bitch around.

Fus-Ro-Da (or Hwatchah, which i prefer LOL)
But bitching around, not those tantrums, makes me enjoy the other stuff online. Like, sample, Kung Fury. That awesome 80's parody of famous action movies in that era. Complete with absurd martial arts moves and death defying satire of the movies that became attached to our kidneys that is the era of the 80's. I did not grow up in the 80's, I'm more of a 90's dude. And I swear its a good thing I still got the chance to experience the 80's goodness still lingering in those days.

The movie was good, honestly. Even though there were tons of absurd loop holes that should've been easy to point out, BUT the damn movie was that attention grabbing because of the absurdity that you won't even mind. Awesome production team, I mean, THEY ARE THE BOSS. They did so well that alot of people are giving good reactions and feed backs. Bias though, as I have yet to see a bad reaction towards the movie, still it is worth the 30 minutes. As alot of people say, the fucking short needs its full length feature.

On a side note I had to come back to reality and finish my damn page, so in lieu of my lack of motivation, I intend to fill it with awesome song covers like the ones from Pellek (TO HIS YT).

Kaiba . youtubers . comics 101

Currently I've been busy distracting myself with a lot of things while working on another page of the comics project i'm doing and a lot of other stuff. On that note, besides discovering Pewdiepie's (Bro channel) channel and stuff, I've come to be a fan of Markiplier (Mister sexy voice, sorry thats how I really view his existence, and so does some of my friends that follows his channel) and Jackspeticeyes (DUH BAWS!!!!!!), specifically these two I adore since I've actually subscribed to other youtubers but I like those two the most. Specially mentioning Yamimash (The Brit), yep its because of his accent.

link it

Besides personally liking how they commentate on their videos, each unique to their own, I felt like before I used to do stuff like this but through my webcomics. Nowadays I'm just a huge fat slacker trying to live off of making comics, which is a poor drag on most peoples eyes. But it doesn't faze me into quitting something like making a comics half way, not again, not ever. Concerning, I've recently re-watched Kaiba, that anime that broke my heart and gave me diabetes because of how awesome the concept of their world is. It's basically a romance sci-fi story about a guy who lost his memory and within those twelve episodes tried solving the mystery of his lost memories.

Truth be told, I'm not liking the fact that I'm not motivated to search for good animes like Kaiba here. Somehow there are TONS of good animes currently being released and continuously gives good chills down everyones spines, especially in the psychological side. However, I'm just not up much to judging series these days, like if I find a good one its got more than 50+ episodes and it still counting. It discourages me to watch it for some reason. I guess I'm getting infected by the impatience of the generation.
